Experience the endless benefits of meditation

With the hectic pace and demands of modern life, many people feel stressed and over-worked. Many of my coaching clients report with time management issues; basically there are not enough hours in the day for them to do everything they would like to do. This stress can result in tiredness, impatience, frustration and a broad range of health issues. Stress is not good for you, regardless of what some people might tell you. The lack of time results in busyness which in turn means that in order to try to fit all of your work in; you cut out many of the activities which form an essential part of your self-care.  Self-care is essential if you are to meet the demands of the day and one super powerful self-care strategy is meditation.

Using meditation

There are many different benefits that can come from learning the art of meditation.  The following are some examples of the many benefits that can be provided by the art of meditation:

Meditation lowers stress

The art of meditating is a great way of reducing your levels of stress. When you learn to meditate, you learn to block off the outside world. You learn to clear your mind of all the unnecessary and stressful thoughts which you have been carrying around with you.

Using mediation to relieve stress improves your mental, physical and spiritual health by removing the burden of all of that excess baggage. There are few things in your life which are truly important and meditation helps you to identify this and remove all of the unimportant, stressful stuff.

Once you have emptied your mind of all the mental clutter, you will find that your thinking improves and you become more confident, focused and creative.

Meditation helps you to discover your true self

In order to deal with the outside world, you will have developed some masks to hide your true self and show people what they want to see. This is a lack of authenticity which prevents you from achieving true happiness and lasting success. Meditation helps you to shed these masks and once again, reveal your true self to the world.

Meditation helps you cope with emotions

With an ever changing life, it can be easy to jump from one emotion to another. This constant emotional shifting makes it harder to deal with stress and it can make it very difficult to manage your relationships. If you want to succeed in every aspect of life, you must be able to manage your emotions and maintain a level of emotional stability. For example, when things go wrong, you get very angry or upset but these emotions block your ability to think effectively. Instead, you need to be able to stay calm and breathe.

Mediation is an incredibly powerful tool for managing your emotions.

Simple meditation for beginners

There are many advanced methods of mediation e.g. I practice Transcendental Meditation. However, before you invest yourself in learning the more advanced methods, you can experience the benefits of some simple meditation.

This meditation exercise is an excellent introduction to meditation techniques.

1. Sit or lie comfortably. You may even want to invest in a meditation chair.

2. Close your eyes.

3. Make no effort to control the breath; simply breathe naturally.

4. Focus your attention on the breath and on how the body moves with each inhalation and exhalation. Notice the movement of your body as you breathe. Observe your chest, shoulders, rib cage and belly. Make no effort to control your breath; simply focus your attention. If your mind wanders, simply return your focus back to your breath. Maintain this meditation practice for 2–3 minutes to start, and then try it for longer periods.

It really is that simple to get started..
